Eight-Tenths of a Point: The Carousel Stopped on the Wrong Quarterback

The desk's own franchise won by 0.80 on Monday night while the opposing bench held a 32.16-point quarterback. The receiver this desk spent two weeks questioning scored 45.20. sammyyy29 posted the third-best score of the week and lost by less than one tight end. And the desk went 5–0.

By The Insider Desk · numbers as of Tuesday

The accounting first, because for once it is pleasant. Wednesday's preview picked all five favorites and wondered in print whether that was discipline or cowardice. All five won. The desk is 13–7 on the season. The tape is off probation. It has been told not to make a thing of it, and it is making a thing of it.

/// The Week's Games

D1LLIGAF 110.68, Dawnieo 109.88

Disclosure: the desk's own franchise, and it did not earn this. It went into Monday night leading 110.68 to 92.48 with nobody left to play. Dawnieo had one player left, Devaughn Vele, and needed more than 18.20 from him. Vele scored 17.40. The margin is 0.80.

Now the lineup screen. The preview reported that Trevor Lawrence would start, Drake Maye would sit, and no change was expected after press time. No change was made. Lawrence scored 15.08. Maye scored 32.16 on the bench. That swap is worth 17.08 in a game decided by 0.80. Romeo Doubs added 23.80 from the bench, and the full gap was 49.28, the widest in the league. The carousel held still for a second straight week, and this time it was the wrong week to hold still. The winning side: Kenneth Walker 30.90, and Will Reichard, a $2 Thursday claim at kicker, 19.00. The analytics department also started Jauan Jennings (1.80) and Dontayvion Wicks (4.80) with KC Concepcion's 11.40 on the bench, and would like the kicker to be the story. Lamar Jackson and Ja'Marr Chase are in the Injury Report. D1LLIGAF leads the series 4–1, four straight.

divinethought 156.28, BrennaLynne 106.02

A correction, in full. Last week Tetairoa McMillan started for 3.70 while Drake London scored 28.40 on the bench, and the desk said so, twice, including a Wednesday item noting the lineup had not moved. By kickoff it had moved. London started (14.60). The Minnesota defense started (9.00). The San Francisco defense was released. And McMillan stayed in, at FLEX, and scored 45.20, the best score in the league this week and the second-best by any starter this season. The desk reported the screen. The screen has replied. Bijan Robinson added 27.70 on Monday night for the week's high score and its biggest margin, 50.26.

BrennaLynne read the recap too, and it cost her. Matthew Golden, 21.00 on the bench a week ago, started and scored 11.70; Malik Nabers, benched for him, scored 23.20. Cam Skattebo, 13.00 on the bench a week ago, started for 7.60; Omarion Hampton, benched for him, scored 13.30. Both swaps were last week's right answer. Tucker Kraft over Zach Ertz was this week's (16.50 to 3.30). For the first time in three weeks her best nine, 127.72, would not have won. 0–4, and the series is even at 3–3.

jgirsby 150.72, sammyyy29 142.66

The chair is still fixed: Brock Purdy 23.62 started, Matthew Stafford 9.68 sat. Puka Nacua 27.70, Zay Flowers 25.80 and Brock Bowers 20.60 made it back-to-back weeks above 150 for jgirsby, who is 2–2 and fourth in points.

sammyyy29 scored 142.66. That is 41.00 more than this team had scored in any week this season, the third-best score in the league this week, and a loss. Kyren Williams scored 36.70. Bryce Young scored 25.46. The defense slot, empty at press time Wednesday, was filled by Jacksonville for 8.00. Almost everything worked. The exception is the one the desk has on file: Dalton Schultz started at tight end and scored 2.90, and Isaiah Likely scored 13.60 on the bench. The difference is 10.70. The margin was 8.06. Four weeks, four benched tight ends who outscored the starter, and the first one that decided a game. The series is even at 4–4.

alyssagenther 109.34, ITouchd0wnThere 99.42

The champion is 3–1 on three straight wins and left 36.16 on the bench doing it. She started Tyler Shough (17.94) after last week's recap; Dak Prescott scored 20.10 behind him. Nico Collins, listed Out a week ago, scored 30.80 on the bench. The quarterback room is down to two: Bo Nix was released Friday. Spencer Shrader, a $0 Saturday claim at kicker, scored 16.00. She leads the series 5–2.

The week's lowest score, 99.42, belongs to ITouchd0wnThere, and most of it is not a lineup story: Justin Jefferson and Caleb Williams were both out, a week after the injuries covered in the last issue. The $51 claim, Ollie Gordon, returned 18.00, and Sam Darnold, $1, returned 17.32. The part that is a lineup story cost $1. Emanuel Wilson was claimed at 3am Sunday and scored 27.00 on the bench while David Montgomery started for 4.30. That swap alone wins the game by 12.78. 2–2.

jsdivine 139.72, mmcatee01 122.80

The preview called this a projection tie, 0.2 points apart. It was not. CeeDee Lamb scored 41.30 and Javonte Williams 31.30, and jsdivine is 4–0 with 605.16 points, 44.10 clear of the field. He also left 36.40 on the bench: Kyle Monangai 28.00, Alvin Kamara 22.80, and Jordan Love's 17.08, the third straight week Love has cleared 17 for a team that did not use him. The thermostat remains taped at "title."

mmcatee01 lost Saquon Barkley and Rashee Rice in the first quarter of their games, which is covered below and is most of the story. The rest of it is familiar. Joe Burrow scored 25.72 on the bench behind Patrick Mahomes's 21.00, the second straight week. Tee Higgins scored 26.70. And Brandon Aubrey kicked for 10.00 to the other side's 6.00. The belief system has outscored the opposing kicker three weeks running and is 1–2 in those games. jsdivine leads the series 5–3.

/// The Transaction Desk

Twenty completed transactions since the last issue and $80 in winning bids, which takes the league to $144 for the season. ITouchd0wnThere accounts for $63 of it: $51 on Ollie Gordon (18.00), $1 on Sam Darnold (17.32) and $1 on Emanuel Wilson (27.00, bench). De'Von Achane, out for the season, was released Wednesday. alyssagenther bid $0 on Wilson a day earlier and the claim failed; he then scored 27.00 against her from a bench. Her $0 on Spencer Shrader returned 16.00.

divinethought spent a FAAB dollar for the first time, ten of them, on Daniel Jones (7.92, bench), which leaves three teams at $0: mmcatee01, sammyyy29 and BrennaLynne. sammyyy29 added Jacksonville's defense for $0 (8.00), Kirk Cousins (26.60, bench) and Kalif Raymond (2.60, started). jgirsby paid $6 for Braelon Allen (8.70, bench) and released Dontayvion Wicks, who was picked up a day later by D1LLIGAF and scored 4.80. The desk's franchise spent $11 on the week: $7 on Kenyon Sadiq (0.00, bench), $2 on Jauan Jennings (1.80) and $2 on Reichard (19.00). The $2 kicker is the only one of those that won the game, and the analytics department has been asked which of the three it was proudest of at the time. Actual trades: none.

/// Next Week

jsdivine (4-0) vs divinethought (3-1) — first in points against second in points. The desk has nothing sarcastic to add and is uncomfortable about it.

mmcatee01 (1-3) vs jgirsby (2-2) — Kansas City is on bye, so the Burrow question answers itself for a week. The desk takes no credit and will be watching the chair.

ITouchd0wnThere (2-2) vs BrennaLynne (0-4) — the week's lowest score against an 0–4 team that fixed last week's lineup this week. One of them gets better news on Sunday.

sammyyy29 (0-4) vs Dawnieo (2-2) — a tight end decision against a quarterback decision. Both answers are on the bench.

alyssagenther (3-1) vs D1LLIGAF (3-1) — the champion against the desk's own franchise and whoever on it is cleared to play. The preview files Wednesday.

FamilyFootball Insider · Week 4 · The desk went 5–0, won its own game by 0.80, was wrong about Tetairoa McMillan by 45.20, and will not be taking questions, particularly about the last one.
